#the100shanghaivignettes Part 1

When I started with this project, I was raring to go out and do quick sketches. Little did I know that I was going to end up with a bad cold that I couldn’t stay outside and sketch as what I had originally planned. So my progress ended up slower than I had anticipated. I decided to change my approach starting from changing the hashtag to my project.

The other change I made was taking photos of subjects I wanted to sketch and sketch these at home. This is not my preferred way of urban sketching because I tend to sketch slow, taking more time on the details. Whereas when I am outdoors, I tend to have a loose sketch which is what I love because I tend to have more expressive strokes and not much fear of putting ink onto my sketchbook. Anyways, I either make change or completely fail with this project.

And then of course, omicron infections plagued the city that by mid-March, we were all asked to work from home and kids switched to virtual learning. We have been indoors ever since but have managed to snap more photos on those occasions I went on errands before the citywide lockdown.

Apart from the numbers 25 to 27 which are referenced from local news photos, photo references are from my own photos.

So, here are what I managed to sketch — the first quarter portion of my project.

I have more materials to sketch from and can’t wait to get some more done in the next few days.

Thank you so much for stopping by.
